Having booked our flights weeks ago, departure date is drawing near and a week or so ago thoughts of checking in for our flight begin. “Leave it until a bit nearer the time,” says Chris, “you never know what might happen.” So I leave it. Until yesterday. Then I figure it really is close enough to decide that we will be on the flight to Spain. Trust me to choose the day when Ryanair’s check in system suffered a major failure, leading to queues at airports across Europe, passengers stranded as flights left without them and angry customers being charged £55 to check in at the airport because they ‘hadn’t’ checked in online! Thankfully the website still had a record of my booking, unlike some travellers whose flight bookings had simply disappeared! However, on trying to check in, I wasn’t able to add passport numbers and, as you might expect, no document details equals no check in and no boarding card!
Today, I’m hoping the techies have worked their magic overnight! Sadly, the website is in the same situation! Eek……starting to think time is running out but we still have just under 48 hours to go. How about the app, I wonder…….hmm……We haven’t tended to use the mobile friendly boarding cards after a failure to scan incident at an airport a few years ago, but needs must when it might be the only option! So, app downloaded and…..success! Checked in and boarding cards available on my phone. Still a bit twitchy about not having a paper copy, though. Technology is great, when it works, but……….well you know how that sentence ends! Back to the website to retrieve my booking and thankfully it’s been updated and the boarding cards are there, ready to download and print. They’re now sitting atop my flight bag ready for the final bit of packing. All is well. Relax……😀
